THE STORY BEHIND THE BAND!!

band1.jpg

"Big Bad Voodoo Daddy formed in 1992 in southern California and became a prominent fixture on L.A.'s nascent swing scene.
After building a following on the local lounge circuit, BBVD got national recognition when their signature tune, "You and Me and the Bottle Makes Three Tonight (Baby)," appeared on the 1996 Swingers soundtrack.
The band released two indie albums and contributed another track, "Cruel Spell," to the Party of Five soundtrack before inking a deal with Coolsville Records.
Upon its fall 1998 release, their major label debut, Big Bad Voodoo Daddy, entered the album charts at No. 64, and remained on the charts for more than a year. In January 1999, BBVD played the halftime show at the Super Bowl, marking their entree into mainstream American culture.
This Beautiful Life, their light-hearted follow-up to Big Bad Voodoo Daddy, hit record stores in October 1999. The album features a cover of "I Wanna Be Like You," from the 1966 Disney classic Jungle Book."

The band has had many different members since it began. Originally, on their debut CD "Big Bad Voodoo Daddy", there were 4 members: Scotty, Kurt, Dirk, and a guy named Ralph Votrain. Then, then numbers changed to 8 members:Scotty, Kurt, Dirk, Josh, Andy, Glen, Karl, and Jeff Harris, who played the trombone. Then Jeff left, and the 2 newest members joined: Ron Blake on 2nd Trumpet and Michael Steinman on trombone.

The band has changed a lot since it started. The name "Big Bad Voodoo Daddy" was Scotty's idea. It came from an autograph Scotty got from legendary blues guitarist Albert Collins. Scotty was attending a concert of his, and the autograph said "To Scotty, the Big Bad Voodoo Daddy". So, when the band was created in the early 90's by Scotty and fellow bandmates Kurt Sodergren and Dirk Shumaker, they asked Scotty what he thought the name should be and he said Big Bad Voodoo Daddy.

The rest of this little page is eye-candy of the whole group. If you want pics of a specific member, go to their page! Also, these pics aren't mine: a big thanks to the owners of the sites "got voodoo?", "Kings of swing", "voodoo love", "voodoo cooties", and the Yahoo! Big Bad Voodoo Daddy club. The links to all of their sites are on my link page. But I just thought they deserved credit, because I didn't scan these pics myself! Feel free to take whatever pictures you want, but I'd like it if you emailed me to tell me who you are, and your site, so I'll know where they're going, and also so I can add your site to my link page! Enjoy!
